Toothache Causes – Prevention and Treatment

Posted by: admin In: Cure Toothaches

Finding out what causes a tooth ache can be an urgent situation in order to properly treat the condition. Toothaches can be caused by many different factors including, tooth decay, sensitive teeth (these are teeth that are sensitive to hot, cold, sweets, air, etc.).

When you have an inner ear problem or a head cold, you might also experience an extreme tooth ache. This is due to the pressure that is being built up around your jaw line. You might not even be experiencing any inner ear or head cold symptoms when you get the infected tooth, but it could be a prediction of a later problem. Kids that swim a lot during the summer will tend to get a large amount of water in their ear canals. This in turn can cause an ear infection and could possibly cause a tooth ache as well. You can prevent this by making your children wear ear plugs when they swim.

Once you have determined the cause of your tooth ache, you need to choose wisely how you treat it. The recommended step is to contact your dentist as soon as possible for an appointment. The dentist can then recommend a suitable treatment, especially one that is much more powerful than an over the counter medication. You can ask the nurse about possible home remedies that you can use until you come in for your appointment, but more than likely she will suggest a simple pain reliever and a numbing gel or cream. Both of these will work, but be prepared because they are only temporary.

To help the temporary treatment work until you go to the dentist you should stay away from any extremely cold foods, such as ice cream. When you are drinking a cold liquid, try to use a straw as much as possible so that it will not touch the infected area. Solid foods might also be a problem, depending on where the tooth ache is located. You will not be able to eat a steak dinner for a while, but with time, the pain will go away.
